We first visited this Rice Mill Cooperative, a member of Farmer and Nature Net (FNN), at Prey Kabas district in Takeo province, Cambodia in 2012. The rice mill was still small, the cooperative had only 61 members. Four years later, this cooperative was able to build a bigger rice mill, thanks to the shares from members, and pooled funds from other district-level savings and credit groups, and CEDAC support. With a grant from Finland, it was able to install a gasifier that covers 75% electrical consumption of the cooperative. Members grew to 265 farmers, with 142 women. MTCP2 project is helping in strengthening the cooperative and financial management skills of leaders.

But some things stay beautifully the same in farmer leader Seu Rany’s home: The wooden reclining chairs, his able and now 89-year old mother-in-law, his caring wife, and the jackfruit that was served -then in 2012 and now in 2016. (May 27, 2016)
