From 01-03 December 2015, in Bac Giang province, in the framework of MTCP2, Vietnam NIA collaborated with Bac Giang province Farmers’ Union to organize a training workshop on capacity building on policy advocacy. 40 participants of the training are Farmers’ Union staff at district and commune levels and farmers from districts: Bac Giang, Yen Dung and Viet Yen.  Representatives from NIA Vietnam, Bac Giang province Farmers’ Union also attended and facilitated the training. The trainers of the training are leaders of Bac Giang province Farmers’ Union who are master trainers on policy advocacy.

For 3 days, participants are provided with knowledge and basic understanding about concepts of policy advocacy, constructive engagement, imperatives for constructive engagement, more understanding about related policies with policy gaps, basic skils on policy advocacy, the steps of policy advocacy  such as: identifying the policy issues, objectives, stakeholder analysis, sharing experiences among particiapants on policy advocacy …

During the training, participants were impressed by the participatory method as well as the contents of the training. They participated actively in sharing their experiences, particularly, expressed their concerns on policy gaps and difficulties in implementing. Also they asked to provide more trainings with same issue and methods, particularly for the farmers as well as FU staff at commune level.

The training brought usefulness and raised awareness among FU staff and farmers on policy advocacy, helping developing supporting policies for farmers, making contribution to economic and social development in rural areas.
